Dana (Paruszewski) Fogerty, VMD

Most veterinarians don"t witness veterinary surgery until they reach veterinary school. But, at the tender age of five, Dr. Dana Fogarty watched her young dog undergo surgery after it had been injured by a car. “Watching the vet, who was a family friend, fix him was so exciting and so interesting,” she recalls.

Flash forward twenty years and this native of Woodstown, New Jersey, found herself a member of the Class of 2009 at the University of Pennsylvania Veterinary School. After graduation, she did an internship at the Veterinary Specialty Center of Delaware, where she rotated through all specialties for one year and gained significant experience in emergency medicine.

Dr. Fogarty received her undergraduate degree in biology from The College of New Jersey, and a Master"s degree in Exercise Science at East Stroudsburg State University. While in graduate school, she volunteered at the Camden Aquarium, working with trainers and providing nutrition and daily care to the seals. Her interest in aquatics led her to one-month internships at Sea World in Orlando and the famed Shedd Aquarium in Chicago.

Dr. Fogarty and her husband live in Philadelphia with their four-year-old dog, Rayna, a rescued Shepard mix who loves to play with soccer balls, and their five-year-old calico, Pita, whom Dana rescued after being found roaming the streets of West Philly.
